I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus… 1 Corinthians 1:4
Last week in service, I gave thanks for all of the work that we have been doing this year. As I prepared for service, I walked around the church and looked at the new bathrooms and the library. I remembered how the kitchen was used during the Wurstfest and how the new pantry and kitchen are being used for Feed My Sheep. I stood amazed at the work done from our flower beds to our sacristy and restrooms to make our church building more hospitable. And these are just some of the outward signs of your faithfulness and commitment this year.
I also gave thanks as we gathered for the Wurstfest that the Portico Project has been paid off. Six months ago, in the midst of a large building project, we presented a plan to rework our front entrance. It would cost $86,450. We hoped to raise half of the funds (and borrow half of the funds out of a rainy day account) to build the new portico and ramp. By God’s Grace, so many of us have contributed prayers and gifts, that the Portico Project has now been paid for in full!
This month also marks the two year anniversary of the beginning of the Growing Beyond our Walls project. This project is also ahead of schedule. Separate from gifts given to the Portico Project, we pledged just over $330,000 toward renovations and additions. Almost $270,000 has already been given. Many have given commitments early so that our mortgage payments will be minimized. Thank you to everyone who has done more than their share.
In the midst of finishing our building projects, and in thanksgiving for all that is being done, we also planned another Wurstfest. As we prepared to send gifts to CTLC and Faith Lutheran in Dickinson, we realize this was a very successful gathering and had a lot of fun in the process. I counted over 80 people working in some way. We are definitely growing beyond our walls.
I continue to give thanks for all the ways that the grace of God to and through your lives. Jesus’ healing work is being shared, people are being fed, songs of praise are lifting hearts and God’s words of forgiveness are being proclaimed. As we enter this season of Advent, let us prepare for Jesus coming again. Part of preparation is be still and become aware of dark corners in our lives where Jesus work is still needed. Part of preparation is to continue the good work to which we are called.
May this season of Advent be filled with thanks and prayers and God’s great gifts.
